「社会事件ですからね。うちでは当初、報道局の社会部が裏を取ろうとしていましたけど、局内の周辺との温度の違いを見て、見送ったようです。ニュースで扱わなければ、我々のような芸能班が扱えるわけはありません」

　スポーツ紙デスクの話はこうだ。

「AKBサイドが各メディアに電話をしたようで、その段階で掲載は見送りですよ。このご時世、広告もたくさん出稿してもらっていますからね、どこもミソはつけたくないでしょう。今回、記事を出すのを控える見返りに、広告出稿を決めた媒体もあるようですよ」

　別のスポーツ紙記者の話。

「長い間、記者をやっていますけど、こんなことは初めてです。目の前には、共同通信社と時事通信社の配信記事があるんですよ。もちろん、高橋みなみの名前は入っていませんが、AKB48のメンバーの母親が逮捕された、という記事が配信されているのに、それに一切触れないなんて……」

　ニュース原稿は通信社によって配信され、一般紙はこれを報じた。

　偶然にも似たような配信記事が8日の一部スポーツ紙には掲載され、芸能メディアのぶれ加減を証明している。

「ギタリストのクロード・チアリの長男が暴行で逮捕されたという記事です。父親は芸能人だけど、息子は一般人です。だけど父親の名前が掲載された。高橋はその逆のケースですが、同じ理屈でいけば、ニュースとして報じられるだけではなく、高橋の名前が出てもいいはずです。やっぱり金の力にはかなわないんでしょうね」
